Simply Simon ... just like you and me
Simon Peter, arguably the closest friend of Jesus, was just like you and me. And he was not. He stumbled, lost his temper, and said NO to Jesus just like you and me. But at the same time he was completely unique by virtue of the call that had been placed on his life.
Simon is mentioned throughout the stories of Jesus more times than any other disciple. Jesus renamed him Peter, but then he never calls him by that name.
Simon Peter was passionate. Passionate enough to mindlessly attack another, passionate enough to say more than he knew, and passionate enough to look more foolish than any other. Simon Peter was fully himself. He was most human. And he honestly admitted his failures.
Perhaps these are some of the reasons Jesus seemed to be so attracted to him.
We'll get to know Peter better through this series, but really we'll get to know Jesus. For the story of Simon Peter is the story of Jesus.
