Suzy and Doug Wilson!

THE FACTS:

Doug grew up in Laurel Springs and has worked in construction for his entire career. In recent years, he has operated his own business, Stuff To Be Done, and enjoys a fine reputation as a skilled handyman. Here at HOPE, Doug has served on the stage crew and always stands ready to assist the band as a roadie. Of course, he is number one fan of our own Suzy Wilson! They were married in 2005. Suzy and Doug live in Magnolia, and he has a grown daughter, Meg, who is the pride of his life.

THE ANSWERS:

One thing I love about my role on staff …

I love coming in to work in the morning and making a difference in the campus of HOPE, both in the main building and The Meeting Place. Whether it’s emptying the trash, helping Tomorrow’s HOPE teachers get their rooms ready for their students, or making repairs where needed, it’s a blessing. I enjoy working with Jim Fleming (Director of Operations) as well as the rest of HOPE’s staff. I love seeing the children of Tomorrow’s HOPE every day, too!

A time I saw God at work in my life …

I started hearing and seeing Him, the first time I walked into HOPE at the request of my then girlfriend, now wife.  A few months after Suzy and I were married, one of my nephews died very suddenly. In speaking with my sister, who was getting ready to bury her son, I was amazed at her perspective. “God doesn’t cause the bad to happen in our lives. He’s there to bless us and be there for us through it,” she said.  I realized that only God can give His grieving children that kind of peace. I also knew that God was using my sister … this woman in the midst of the most horrendous grief possible … to get to me. And, He did!

A book that rocked my world (in addition to the Bible) …

I am not a huge reader, and I don’t remember the last book I actually finished. I am fascinated by what I read in several scientific magazines to which I subscribe, like “Popular Science” and “Discover.” I am rocked, also, by “Popular Mechanics!”

One reason I think people should check out HOPE Church …

Within these walls, we all have met the God that wants to meet us. Outside these walls, we are hopefully living the life that God means for us to have. We are always challenged to live our lives with what we learn and are given at HOPE. The messages are relevant, the music is awesome (even when my wife isn’t playing), and I really look forward to the next Sunday morning!

A hobby that I’d love to get into but probably never will …

Hand-gliding! In fact, if I could be any animal, it would be an eagle so I could soar the heights and enjoy the view. But since I’m not an eagle, and I most likely will never hand-glide, I’ll enjoy the virtual rides posted on YouTube from the safety of my sofa.
