Get to Know Ashley Evans – HOPE’s Coordinator of Youth Ministry

Here’s Ashley with one of HOA’s children, Jameson, during HOPE’s Haiti Mission Team trip of 2016.

Ashley served in Hope’s Youth Ministry, Adult Missions Team to Haiti, and Adult Missions Team to Cuba before joining the staff in 2016. With a background in creative arts, non-profit work, and counseling, Ashley has an enormous heart for creativity, service, and the next generation of the church. Outside of work, Ashley loves any opportunity to be outside, explore new places, dance, and write.

One thing I love about my role on staff …

It energizes me. I always find myself leaving even more excited about what God is doing in the lives of our community than when I came in – and I usually come in pretty excited. There is something special about this staff and the Hope community. It welcomes me, challenges me to be my best, and grows me.

A time I saw God at work in my life …
When I decided to become part of the staff at Hope, God showed up big. I had been telling him what I thought my plans should be for the next move in my life and it wasn’t going quite the way I wanted. I finally admitted my way wasn’t working and told God “I’m ready, send me wherever You want” and instead he turned up with something bigger and more fulfilling than I had ever imagined through leading me deeper into my role here at Hope. I often tell people he did a total 180 in my heart and I am so incredibly encouraged by it every single day.

A book that rocked my world (in addition to the Bible) …

I don’t even know where to start…I. LOVE. BOOKS. I was going to say Ragamuffin Gospel, but since Rick already suggested that one I’ll go with Out of Sorts by Sarah Bessey. Sarah, who also wrote Jesus Feminist, is by far my favorite author. I love how much permission her books give us to follow our own journey of faith when we may so often feel as if we have to fit into a certain box. Runner up? Looking for Lovely by Annie F. Downs.

One reason I think people should check out HOPE Church …

You really are welcome here, just as you are. I know a lot of places probably say that but I have never felt it as strongly as I have at Hope. A majority of my dearest and strongest friendships have come out of serving in ministries or going on missions trips with others from our HOPE community.

A hobby that I’d love to get into but probably never will …
Snowboarding. I love the winter Olympics and think female snowboarders are awesome. I’m a dancer, so I have the balance thing down. But I’d love to be able to do it while gliding and flipping down a mountain!
