Simply Christian, by N.T. Wright

If you’ve ever seen a network news special on Jesus or the Bible, you’ve probably seen N.T. Wright, a bald, bearded Brit who seems to speak in sound bytes. This church bishop and a New Testament scholar really knows his stuff—and he believes it. On those TV programs, after other scholars cast doubt on Scripture and all things Christian, it’s great to hear a voice like Wright’s, winsomely explaining why it makes a great deal of sense to believe in Jesus.

That’s sort of what he does in this new book, Simply Christian. Already, people are comparing it to C.S. Lewis’s classic, Mere Christianity. Wright’s subtitle is: “Why Christianity Makes Sense.” In that light, he presents basic Christian teaching about God, Jesus, the Spirit, the Kingdom, Worship, Prayer, and the Bible. This is the kind of book you could give to a friend who’s looking into Christianity. It might also serve as a refresher course for you.
