LIFE – It’s more than a game July 14
How long will you lie there, you sluggard?
When will you get up from your sleep? Proverbs 6:9
The phrase that has been turning over in my head and heart all week is, “Godly wisdom is truth in action.” It’s not wisdom until we begin to act on it. While listening to the message on Sunday, I was faced with the reality that I fight inertia. Well, maybe “fight” is not the right term. I am, plain and simple, inert. I have allowed myself to be complacent which has led to being comfortable about doing nothing and now…well now, I am just stuck.
Complacency set in years ago when I convinced myself that the problem was too big for me to make any difference. I became comfortable living in my upper middle class, highly educated, multi-cultural bubble ignoring the injustices that were happening all around me. Now, I am just plain stuck and being inert is not where I want to be anymore.
“Godly wisdom is truth in action. It’s not wisdom until we act on it.”
Jeff asked the question Sunday, “In what arena of your life have you become a sluggard?” I have become a sluggard in fully caring about people who feel that they have been mistreated. I have become a sluggard in not recognizing the hurt and frustration of my brothers and sisters who are treated differently because of ethnicity.
“It’s not wisdom until we act on it”
I’m not sure what I’m suppose to do now. I just know that I no longer want to be inert. So I will start with Romans 12:18 “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.” When we move, we fight inertia. I will continue to find ways to continue to move in ways that help move the dial a couple of degrees to True North. — Marilyn BillsFiled Under: Online Studies, Proverbs, Small Groups
