Message Series: word. (Our Word(s))

This Sunday Night marked a milestone event for HYM.  It was the first night that we ever gave entirely over to the students.  We have an team of Student Leaders who have been stepping up in all sorts of ways throughout the past year.  This team expressed that they wanted to have a more active role in SNL.  So, what’d we do?  We let them run it for the night.  From games, to announcements, to developing the handout to writing and giving the lesson, these students did it all.  We’re really thankful for them and excited to see the work they continue to put forth.  More information on this group is available here.

These students wrapped up our 4-week series “word.” by giving a challenging message from James 3.  They explained how bizarre and terrible of a thing it is that we use the same mouth God gave us to praise Him to curse, hurt gossip about other people.  If we fail to realize the power of our words, we will put out a terrible name for Christianity everywhere.  However, if we see the potency of our words, we can use them to speak love, truth, blessing, encouragement, hope and Jesus into other people’s lives who desperately need it.  We hope that you are able to talk about this more as a family and encourage one another to apply this lesson to your lives immediately at work, school and home especially.  Here are some questions to get those conversations rolling:

What’s the most hurtful thing someone said to you in the past year?
What’s the most hurtful thing you said to someone else in the past year?
Why do you think it is so difficult for us to control what we say?
Who is one person that you can begin to speak more lovingly with?

We pray that you can grow as a family in Christ! We believe your family is the most important ministry you can be involved in and that the greatest growth for anyone happens in the home! We can’t wait to hear more about how this goes!  If you have any questions on this or anything else, please feel free to contact Dave ( or Nolan ( at any time!
