The Hebrew word used for judges in the Old Testament really means something like “justice-makers.” These weren’t people in white wigs & robes who decided cases, but people who actively fought for justice. Actually, a pretty good translation of this word is “Avengers.”
Not THE Avengers – Ironman or Thor or the Hulk. But, the ancient avengers of the Old Testament – Gideon, Ehud, Samson, Jephthah, Deborah, and avengers like that.
