Worship Arts at HOPE

Using music, drama, dance and other creative arts to bring people into the heart of worship.

Let everything that has breath praise the Lord … Psalm 150:6

One of HOPE’s core values is joyful worship. Worship Arts at HOPE is made up of teams valuesof people devoted to living this out through music, dance, technical arts, visual arts, drama, creative writing and any other artistic medium. HOPE’s artistic teams help lead the people of HOPE into joy-filled, Spirit led worship each week. Our artists also present major productions several times a year to celebrate special seasons and to tell the story of our faith through creative artistic expression.

There are seven values guiding the Worship Arts ministries. These values are the unshakable foundation that hold all HOPE’s artists accountable to Christ and the vision of HOPE Church.

Creativity:

In the beginning God created Genesis 1:1

RevWorship2It always begins with God.  He is a creative being and we are created in His image.  It stands to reason that God enjoys our praise when we are using all of our creative energy to worship Him. We do not hold creativity as an idol or something to be worshipped. Creativity it is part of who we are as created beings so, we use our creative nature to worship.

Excellence:

Sing to him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy Psalm 33:3

We defined excellence as, doing the best we have with what we have. All that we are andtech have is a gift from God. As artists, we rehearse, practice, lead and participate in worship with our best efforts as an expression of our love and praise for Him.

Authenticity:

God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth …  John 4:24

Our services are not a show that we put on for ourselves or others. We come together to give thanks and praise to the One we serve.

Humility:

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves,  not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others … Philippians 2:3-4

IMG_2162-2Artists often get the reputation of being divas. It takes a bit of ego to stand in front of people and present an artistic piece. However, our egos should never get in the way of authentic worship. We try to keep our egos out of worship leadership and expect our team members to speak truth into our lives when we slip up.

Intentionality:

But everything should be done in a fitting and orderly way … 1 Corinthians 14:40

We believe God is in the planning process. Planning is done with the guidance of the Holy kidssingSpirit. Executions of plans are done with flexibility, because sometimes God just seems to be going in a different direction that we had originally planned. One of our favorite phrases, “plans are wet cement”.

Community:

Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness… Genesis 1:26

In the creation story we find the first glimpse of the trinity: “in our image.” God was in community, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, from the beginning. He created us for Worship1community, “It is not good for the man to be alone.” Genesis 2:18. We serve God and the church best when we work in authentic Christian community.

Well-ordered hearts and lives:

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.  Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become tumblr_lclpxg0cAn1qe3iowo1_500conceited, provoking and envying each other.  Galatians 5:22-26

Growing in the love of Christ, living and being led by His Spirit is the expectation of all of HOPE’s artists. Not that any of us get this perfectly, but we continue to trust God to grow our faith and seek to serve Him for the sake of others.
