Many years ago I said in passing “ I don’t really like to read the psalms”, little did I know how Psalm 28:7 (The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trust him and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will praise him in song) would grow my faith.
I had been invited to go to Ulyanovsk with a friend for her son’s wedding, I was so excited to go to a different country & learn about its culture. Although after a couple of days of arriving I unexpectedly began seeing & hearing things that caused me feel trapped & afraid. Most of the three weeks that I spent there I listened to praise songs on my iPod & recited Psalm 28:7. Upon returning home I came to understand spiritual warfare, and that that is what I had experienced. The joy of the Lord was my strength ( Nehemiah 8:10) in those dark and uncertain days, where I chose to trust in God’s sovereignty and his love for me.
As the shepherd in the fields nearby, (who probably had no idea what they were about to see) An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shine around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all people.”Luke 2:9-10.
If fear, worry or sadness has tried to steal your joy during this advent season, I encourage you to ask the Holy Spirit to fill you with words of praise and hallelujah for Christ the King is born! And that is great Joy!!
