Finding Peace

Finding peace - right where you are

We can scrub and clean, organize and tackle, do any manner of things to make ourselves feel "alright". Seeking that sense of well being. Constantly telling ourselves that once THIS is accomplished we will feel better. I'm here to share some bad news and some good news. Do you prefer the good news or the bad news first? I'm a bad news first kinda girl so that's how I'm going to break it to you. The bad news is, if you haven't discovered it yourself, all that DOING won't bring you the feeling of peace you are longing for. Trust me, I've been there and done that. Sometimes I still have moments where I fall back into that same mindset (who am I kidding? - often!). The truth is that there is only one thing, one person, who can bring you that sense of peace that you are looking for. Jesus.

Paul says in Philippians 4:6-7 "Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus."

This has been and it seems may always be a hard lesson for me. I've always been more of a Martha than a Mary. So how do you go from being a Martha to a Mary? Slowly but surely. Baby steps. Start by slowing down for just a few minutes a day to quiet yourself. Maybe it is with a journal or bible open in your lap or maybe it is just the few minutes when you first wake up or before you go to sleep. Take that time to talk to God. Just speak from your heart. It doesn't have to be at a specific time of day but consistency helps build habits. We can't grow and change overnight. It takes time and patience and trust.

Pray for that peace that surpasses all understanding. Have you felt that peace before? I'd love to hear about it! It is tangible! God is good and he cares deeply about you. Cast your fears and anxieties and whatever is driving all your doing up to him.

The verse that has been on my heart the most these days is Matthew 7:7
“Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you."

Praying for you!
